Regarding Recent Spam Issues

Post by K776 »

Hello everyone,

As you might have seen, we were recently plagued by spam. Bots used an exploit in phpBB to avoid the captcha and email verification. The only way to stop the spam at the time was to disable registrations.

I've now been able to upgrade phpBB to the latest stable version, which should come with bunches of bug fixes. However, if you see anything odd on the forum, let me know in this thread. I experienced some theme and language pack issue, but I think I've got them sorted (if you're seeing this, then you don't have them).

I'll keep a close eye on the forum over the next few days to make sure the spam has stopped and if need be, shut down registration again.

Sorry for the inconvenience and please feel free to continue to use the forum.

Regards

Good job k776! We really needed somebody to do this work...
(I'll edit this post if I see something weird)
1. I don't see icon of warrior/worker/explorer // OK now, it wasn't important
2. (joking) new banner without lvl 2 school!

Yer. I'd hoped to do it sooner, but I only just got back access to the server files last week.

Got a context of where these were used? Are they important?

Yer, sadly the theme was lost. If you want to install phpBB on your local computer, and make a theme, then you can email it to me and I'll be happy to upload it.

Looks like the update stopped spam for a little bit. Very happy about that ^_^

I've also just moved forums around a bit, and locked the ideas and bugs forums (we have proper places for those now).

Oh, I see. The rank images. I've now restored them. Thanks.

Let me know if anything else is missing.
