Game crashes at Tutorial 3

Post by Harlequin »

I installed Globulation on my MacBook and everything was fine until I wanted to enter Tutorial 3 (the military stuff). When I clicked the start mission button, the game completely crashed. I tried a few times then deleted the game and installed new, but it's still the same.
This is my report:

Yeah, me too. Tutorial Part 3 crashes at startup. I've tried it several times, hoping that a change in "settings" would help. No luck. Seems like the sort of game I could really enjoy, but I can't play past the second tutorial. I sure hope we can fix this.

Harlequin, try this:

First, to learn how to play the game without a tutorial, go to the game's User Manual at
<http://globulation2.org/wiki/User_Manual>

Then in the game, click Custom Game and a choice of AI opponents will come up. I was able to play this way, though without the tutorial practice, I'm really flubbing things up. Eventually I'll get the hang of it.

Not the best answer, but at least you can play beyond the first two tutorials. Good luck.

Well, it looks like they may have fixed this. The website says

"Beta 4 0.9.4.1 Released: Beta 4 0.9.4.1 was released with a corrupt tutorial 3, causing crashes on many computers. The tutorials have been updated and fixed and put in 0.9.4.1"

But whaththeheck, I can't get it to download at all! Click the icon, nothing happens -- no download started.
Guess I'll search some more for help with download problems.

I've managed to play the game OK by just reading the Users Manual info at the game's website, but I'd like to do the tutorial and get all the tips that I've missed.

I've been able to download just the updated "tutorial-part3.map" from the mercurial repository, save it in ~/.glob2/campaigns, and play the whole tutorial (base installation was 0.9.4):

http://hg.globulation2.org/glob2-new/fi ... -part3.map

Save it . . . where? I don't find any "campaigns" folder. The download included a folder for "Bug Reporting," a plaintext "Copying", a "MacOSX Readme" -- also text, and the game's executable. Nowhere do I see a campaigns folder. Can you point me to the right location?

Yeah, I'm a dummy. Just a little old lady who plays solitaire games instead of watching TV.

I've got no experience with OSX, but with Linux, this folder structure is created when you first run the game, and it is in your home directory; maybe you need to enable viewing hidden folders in Finder? Then, there should be a ".glob2" folder in your home dir, and a "campaigns" folder inside it...

Hey Zenfur,

Yep, the bug should be fixed in 0.9.3.1 (source and debian). I never got around to update the Windows one.

With another release just around the corner though, I'm going to wait before I make one.

Kieran
