what's your version of glob2?
  • leo@Nemo:/data2/stuff/Inetpub/wwwroot/spiel$ glob2 --version
    Settings::load("preferences.txt") : error, can't open file.

    Globulation 2 - 0.9.3

    Compiled on May 20 2008 at 01:23:49

    Compiled with SDL version 1.2.12
    Linked with SDL version 1.2.12

    Featuring :
    * Map version 70
    * Maps up to version 58 can still be loaded
    * Network Protocol version 27
    This program and all related materials are GPL, see COPYING for details.
    (C) 2001-2007 Stephane Magnenat, Luc-Olivier de Charriere and other contributors.

I should point out that several distrobutions still have packages dating back to the alpha days (~6 months ago). When you run 'glob2 --version' as Giszmo pointed out, make sure the first digits read something like 0.9.x. If you have 0.8.x, those server are no longer active, shutdown months ago.

You can grab the latest code from the download page ( http://www.globulation2.org/wiki/Download_and_Install ) and follow the compiling guide at http://www.globulation2.org/wiki/Compiling . Then you should have no problems connecting to the server.

However, should you have a beta version ( 0.9.x ) and still cannot connect, please post your bug on https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?group=glob2 so that the developers can find and take care of it quicker than they would here.

Thanks.
